Huddersfield Library

I know that I've blogged about this before, but I love Huddersfield Library. It's a beautiful Art Deco building, that badly needs some TLC.

The Star Inn - Folly Hall

Now I DO like a friendly pub with a good pint. As we were in Huddersfield this weekend, we popped into' The Star Inn', which we'd read good things about.

It's a great place with good beer (see above), plenty to read (including CELEB mags)...

...and a hound. I'm not sure about the diamante collar though!

O Tannenbaum (2010)

What did the Victorians do for us?

Well...they (or rather Prince Albert) introduced the Christmas Tree to the UK.

The beloved and I picked up ours today.

It doesn't look bad does it?

Even better with the candles lit!

Sleepy Dido

As Jeanette Ager shows...

...playing a doomed heroine is VERY tiring.

PONIES!

I had heard a rumour that Cinderella, this year's panto at the Oxford Playhouse, was going to star two shetland ponies. I caught sight of them arriving today.

As it's just round the corner from work, I can be a stable door Johnny!

Winter Light Night - Natural History & Pitt Rivers Museum

A real treat this evening...

...Winter Light Night at the Natural History Museum and Pitt Rivers Museum.

I went with my lovely friend Jo, and her children Jack and 'Cille.

The dinosaurs...

...were shown off to good effect...

...by the special lighting...

...which was very special.

We enjoyed the wind up torches...

...we used to explore the Pitt Rivers collection.

The lighting was fab here too...

...highlighting the beautiful roof.

People wandering around with torches looked like a cloud of fireflies.

The museum itself...

...looked like the skeleton of dinosaur.

Phew...

The weather hasn't be great of late, and I was rather taken with this invitation outside 'The Dukes Cut'.

The weather was decent(ish) today, so we dug over the veg plot and mucked out the greenhouse. I always forget just how taxing digging is. It's taken me the rest of the day to recover!

CAKE!!!!

It's not a birthday without cake. My lovely husband make me a ginger & mascarpone cheesecake, and chocolate muffins .

Spiders from Eynsham

The other morning I almost began to believe in fairies.

The morning dew revealed the most incredibly delicate strands of silk...

...sparkling like a ballroom dancer's frock.

Ah...here's who made the webs...

...which were quite incredible.

The flowers looked nice in the dew as well.

And here's an attempt to be arty...

Belated Birthday Greetings

It was Adam's birthday on 8th October. At his request I baked a chocolate and pistachio cake.

As you can see, he was rather pleased with it.

To be a pilgrim - Beatification Mass - Cofton Park

At unspeakable o'clock this morning, I left to catch my 'pilgrim bus' to Cofton Park, for the Beatification of John Henry Newman, and Papal Mass.

Our 3am start from Witney, got us seated at Cofton Park at twenty to six (in the drizzle).

Some seemed more prepared for bad weather than others!

Here are Kate and Carol as dawn breaks.

Kate's extensive Glastonbury experience meant that she found us a good spot...

...somewhere in her is the Pope...

and the sun came out for Il Papa.

The sun meant that the umbrellas marked where the concelebrants were, rather than having to shield them.

A very special day, and extremely well organised...however, did they need to make special Beatification branded toilet signs?

Flavio Zappi's Coffee Shop - Walton St

After going to see Metropolis, with lovely Lindsay at The Phoenix, we chanced upon Zappi's coffee shop (which has been there since 2008).

It's run by Flavio Zappi, and ex professional cyclist. After some years away from the sport, he now runs a cycling club, based at the cafe.

As well as all the cycling memorabilia, there are some special coffees blends...

...and this little chap, who I assume comes from The Oxford Cake Company (who made my wedding cake).

BTW - the coffee was excellent.
